She may have walked away from this year’s Grammys with six awards but, if Vogue is to be believed, chart-topper Adele is taking a five-year break from music, all in the name of love.
The magazine claims that the 23-year-old says she will be leaving the singing behind her to focus on her relationship with boyfriend Simon Konecki.
She is quoted as saying: "I am f---ing off for four or five years. If I am constantly working, my relationships fail … So at least now I can have enough time to write a happy record. And be in love and be happy.”
But fans of the singer shouldn’t worry too much as Adele, and her spokespeople of course, is playing down these comments.
In her blog she writes: ''I've a few days off now, and then it's the Brit Awards here at home and then I'm straight into the studio. … Five years? More like five days.''
Yet this backtrack has come after hundreds of stories have already appeared in newspapers and on the internet, speculating about her departure from the music scene.
Adele is a huge star and has a bit of reputation for shooting from the lip. With such a great status comes great responsibility. To protect her own reputation she should be careful about the comments she makes in interviews or face the consequences of the gossip-mongers, but she’s a loveable character who will probably never change.
But for mere mortals, in an interview situation with a journalist, it often helps to come prepared with a number of points that you wish to cover. Always remember, however nice an interviewer may seem, don’t tell them anything about yourself or your business that you wouldn’t want anyone else to know.
