Could you live without your mobile phone? I couldn’t. And probably most of my friends, family, work colleagues wouldn’t be able to either.
Researchers have found that there’s actually a term for those people who are ‘terrified’ of being without their phone – nomophobics. A survey of 1,000 people in employment found that two-thirds of them do suffer from this modern day phobia.
Women worry about losing their phones more than men - 70 per cent of the women surveyed, compared to 61 per cent of the men, yet it is men that are more likely to have two phones - scoring 47 per cent and 36 per cent respectively.
As just about everyone knows – we are living in the mobile era. What this study highlights is the extent that people now rely on their mobile phones. It’s the defining communications channel of our time, improving upon – and in some ways eclipsing – the online channel.
More and more people are consuming media through portable devices, a phenomenon that will only increase with the explosion of iPad copycats.
It’s our job, as PR consultants to tell our clients’ stories in the most effective manner and the through the most effective channels, so it’s essential we embrace the mobile as one of the most direct and immediate communications available.
Simply – we think it’s time to get mobile. Get in touch if you want know how you can integrate a mobile campaign into your marketing and PR strategy.
