Roman Abramovich has warned his misbehaving players to stop dragging the club’s name through the mud.
It seems to us the owner is doing a pretty good job of single-handedly damaging the club’s reputation!
Chelsea may be top of the Premier League, but with the club a laughing stock and the “brand” sullied in the wake of revelations concerning Terry and Cole, Abramovich has decided to impose ‘Roman Law.’
It is reported that Cole will be fined £400,000 for his alleged infidelity which took place on ‘club time,’ and enlisted the help of at least one club employee.
This escapade follows swiftly on from Terry’s extra marital affairs where not only did the club offer him ‘full support,’ but also sent him off to Dubai to patch things up with his wife.
Talk about one rule for one and one for another.
We think the Russian billionaire needs to take his players in hand and strategically manage them more effectively.
Maybe they could develop a ‘Chelsea Charter’ that outlines their common goals, ethics and values of their community they want to live by, and then they can show that being a Chelsea footballer means more than just kicking a ball.
By imposing some consistent rules and stating wholeheartedly that NOBODY is above the law Abramovich might prevent any more erosion of the Chelsea brand values.
