Are you a secret Strictly sensation? Have you got a little of that X Factor? Can you astound and amaze your friends? Do you live in Rossendale or Ramsbottom?
This month Viva has teamed up with our local newspaper, The Rossendale Free Press, in a bid to raise a huge bundle of cash for the Many Hands Campaign. Behind the scenes, there has been fevered preparation, characterised by meetings over pizza slices and theatrical agonising over venues, formats, logos and more pizza.
Now, the cat is out of the bag — the contest has already been given front page billing.
Yes, we have launched Rossendale’s Got Talent, our quest to find a top performer on our doorstep. We are now looking for any kind of talented acts: singers, dancers, magicians, you name it, to battle it out for the coveted crown. The prize includes £200 in cash and the chance to win recognition for your talents by performing on Channel M’s breakfast show and Ted Robbins’ Radio Lancashire show.
Readers of the newspaper will be able to play their part too by selecting finalists who will go through to the grand finale in April. It should be great fun but it’s also a serious fund-raising initiative too.
The Many Hands Campaign is an initiative designed to raise funds for the New Manchester Children’s Hospital Appeal, which aims to raise £20 million to fund specialist equipment and parental accommodation at the new children’s hospital being built in Manchester. It will be the biggest children’s hospital in the country and will provide sick children from all over the North West with the very best of care. It will replace Booth Hall and Pendlebury children’s hospitals and is due to open this summer.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. ‘I want to help you out there Tone, but I don’t live in Rossendale and I am the worst signer ever born.’ Well, that’s OK too, because we have set up a Justgiving fundraising page just for you.
And just to ensure that the fund-raising effort is a success, it would be good this month if you could forward the Viva–eshot to anyone you know with a bit of spare cash.
Hey, it’s for the kids!
