What Viva delivered for Lancashire Mind:
About Lancashire Mind – Breaking Boundaries
Lancashire Mind’s belief is that there should be no barriers or boundaries to people in Lancashire achieving good mental health and wellbeing.
When the pandemic struck, the charity saw its fundraising income reduced by 40%, so we needed to create a campaign that would not only help to raise much-needed funds but would also encompass Mind’s ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’: Connect, Be Active, Take Notice, Keep Learning and Give.
Many people’s mental health had started to suffer after weeks of restrictions, unforeseen consequences and constant uncertainty. With many trapped in their houses spending hours on end on video calls, we knew we needed to be innovative and think outside the box.
So, what could Viva do that would be inclusive and bring the people of Lancashire together whilst staying safe and keeping our distance?
That’s when Breaking Boundaries was born.

Our Breaking Boundaries PR Campaign
Unlike some other events, Breaking Boundaries was unique to Lancashire Mind. Determined to be there for the people of Lancashire, we had to get innovative when lockdown struck.
This is why we created a challenge idea around Lancashire’s boundary, to reinforce who the mental health charity exists to support.
We challenged participants to travel the equivalent of Lancashire’s boundary – a total of 417 miles – in just 14 days. The challenge was launched during Mental Health Awareness Week (18th – 25th May) and began on 30th May 2020.
They said:
“Overall, Breaking Boundaries 2020 met or exceeded all measurables set, from fundraising targets, donations and participants, website engagement and social and traditional media engagement.
More importantly for Lancashire Mind, Breaking Boundaries was about bringing a community of people together- united in their belief of Mental Wellbeing for All. The challenge improved wellbeing, created a positive focus and conveyed a shared goal for those taking part which was shared by the wider Lancashire community.”
